Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta

Glazing at hundreds of hot air balloons that surged through the skin-line, I can’t help but imagine: how would it feel, to look at the world from up above?

Apart from Cappadocia, Turkey, you can also watch sky-filled hot air balloons here in Albuquerque. Originated in 1972, Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta is the largest balloon convention in the world for owners to showcase their balloon piloting skills. It captures New Mexico’s very own culture and tradition. If you don’t want to miss out any part of the fiesta, I suggest arriving before sunrise: strolling through the fiesta park, I see groups of families and friends preparing to inflate their own balloons – which is definitely memorable – as I get the chance to help set up by volunteering to hold up the rope! After sunrise, the sky gradually fills up with balloons. In addition to conventional ones, I see many uniquely-shaped, including a frog, a bull, and also a bear in a chef hat..

On a (bumpy but amazing) ballon ride
Ok, it’s finally my turn to go on a hot air balloon ride now! Well, the carriage is so tiny that I can barely move in it. But once I got up the sky – that view, which hundreds of balloons from all directions flying with me – is absolutely breath-taking. I feel free. Trust me, what is captured by merely a camera cannot justify the spectacular view that I am seeing through my naked eyes right now. You’ll be amazed how far the balloon can travel in this short 15 minutes ride! And I will never forget the moment when it lands – it is so bumpy – that for a second I think I almost fall out of the balloon. Nevertheless, the ride is definitely worth it, and I highly recommend you to go on a hot air balloon ride when you get a chance – to look at the world from a whole new perspective.
